Crossing Guard Tribute

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Alice Lorraine Stapleton on May 3, 2023 at the age of 87. Her final days were spent surrounded by family at her son’s James and daughter-in-law Karen’s home in Hillsborough, NJ.

Alice was born in Manhattan on January 3, 1936 to parents Katherine and Roland Carron. The family later moved to Astoria. Alice graduated William Cullen Bryant High School in 1954 and began working at DuJour Camera as a customer service liaison where she stayed employed for the next ten years. In 1965 she met James Stapleton and they married soon thereafter in 1966. They purchased their first home in Bellerose and started a family with their three boys. In 1979 Alice became a crossing guard posted at Saint Gregory’s School in Bellerose. She held that position for almost forty years, taking care to safely cross the children. She was a beloved familiar face and an institution in Bellerose. Alice was also deeply involved in Saint Greg’s yearly festival where she chaired the rides committee until only a few years ago.

Alice was an example of strength and loyalty, she devoted her life to her family, parish and community. Alice is survived by her three sons, James, Robert and Kevin Stapleton, their wives Karen, Carolina and Kelly and her five grandchildren, Vivian, Dylan, Lia, Matt and Lauren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband James and her brother Roland Carron. She will be dearly missed.
