St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy of Bellerose Paves the Way for Distance Learning Amid COVID-19 Crisis
St. Gregory Provides Support through Digital Learning Tools and Practices
BELLEROSE, New York – As the concern surrounding the spread of COVID-19 swept across the nation and beyond, St. Gregory Catholic Academy of Bellerose helped set the precedent for Catholic Academies within the Diocese of Brooklyn for successful distance learning.
Six years before the COVID-19 crisis of 2020, SGTGCA implemented a series of programs and systems in an effort to support students through the power of technology and online communication. The Academy utilizes the Google Classroom platform, an online system designed to streamline the file sharing process for teachers and students; the 1:1 Program, an initiative that ensures every student has access to a Chromebook or tablet; and remote filtering systems for safety and security for device usage both inside and outside the classroom.
With six years of experience, and help from digital partner ONE18MEDIA and IT partner Smart IT, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy was prepared to face the new challenges introduced by COVID-19, and it continues to provide advice and guidance to the Diocese of Brooklyn as institutions navigate the new advantages and challenges posed by distance learning and nontraditional methods of schooling.
During the transitional period from the physical classroom to outside learning environments, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy has served as a leader in helping teachers and parents adapt to the changes introduced by COVID-19 and the practice of “social distancing,” or the actions intended to reduce and prevent wide-spread infection.
St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy of Bellerose is a Catholic Academy within the Diocese of Brooklyn, providing private faith-based education for children in Early Childhood (Nursery, Pre-K, Kindergarten) and first through eighth grade.
