Good Morning!! I want to start off by saying how very proud I am of all of you these past few months. You have been placed in a difficult situation that no one should have to go through. There are so many things that we are all experiencing and I want to let you know, that you are not alone. Along with your amazing teachers, and wonderful administration, I am here for you.
Since we have learned that the remainder of the school year will continue through distant learning, a lot of people are experiencing different emotions. Some of you might be feeling ok, some of you might be sad or angry, and that’s ok. Whatever you are feeling might be different from your friends, and that’s ok too. Know that even though we are each in our own homes, we are still a community that cares about each other. You might find you are doing well in your classes, and like the different schedule you are on. Some of you miss school, your friends, and teachers tremendously, and now those feelings are becoming too much for you to handle on your own. Some of you just miss the safety and security, the routines and the connections that school offers. All of those feelings are okay…you may even find that your feelings are changing as we go on.
Before all of this began, it was easy to stop me in the hallways or in class and ask to meet with me, or even knock on my door and make an appointment. I am still here for you, just in a different way. Your parents can contact me through email and request that I call you, which I am happy to do. You can also ask you teachers to help you contact me. Sometimes, a friendly voice makes a difference. So if you need anything, ask for help. I promise I will respond to you as quickly as I can.
A lot of you can do things that can make an impact on others. If you haven’t spoken to a friend, this can be the time to reach out and have a quick phone call. Remember, all those trainings I have done over the years on how to have conversation with another individual? A quick, positive, text can also help brighten someone’s day. Sometimes we forget that maybe someone might be feeling the same way you are. Remember, just because we can’t physically be together at school, does not mean that we can’t still connect. If you are connecting with others, good job! Take the time, also, to connect with your teachers; they miss you too.
So, yes, our building is closed, but we are far from being done. Keep working hard, do your best, and ask for help when you need it.
Stay safe and we will get through this together!
