As noted above, there are some changes in the school schedule for the 2021-2022 school year. Please read the following information carefully, as times have changed. School will begin for grades 1-8 on Wednesday, September 8th and for Kindergarten students on Thursday, September 9th. Students in grades K-8 will have morning line-up in the schoolyard beginning at 7:50am and all students must be in the school yard no later than 8:00am regardless of weather. Dismissal will be at 2:55 each day for Kindergarten and 3:00pm for grades 1-8 in the school yard, regardless of weather. On half days, dismissal is at 12:00 pm for all grades.
School will begin for Pre-K on Monday, September 13th. Pre-K Students will enter at the door by the playground on 87th Avenue at 7:50am and doors will close promptly at 8:00am. Dismissal is at 2:55pm at the playground doors.
ALL TEACHERS WILL BE ON HAND THESE FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL TO MAKE SURE STUDENTS ARE PROPERLY GUIDED TO THEIR CLASS LINES. PARENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ENTER THE SCHOOL YARD. I know many of you are concerned your children will not be able to find their way, but it becomes too congested and is not permitted due to COVID protocols.
Students should use the following gates:
Parking Lot Entrance by Gregorian Hall/Cross Island Service Road: Grades K, 4, 5, 7, 8
Ballfield Entrance on 87th Avenue: Grades 1, 2, 3, 6
***Health screening forms will continue to be necessary for all students and must be filled out by 7:30 am. Because all students are arriving at the same time, it is imperative that you fill out your form in a timely manner so that we can get all students into the school yard quickly, easily, and above all else, safely. The health screening form link is https://sgtgca.org/daily-family-form/ and is also available on our website Parent Portal under “Daily Family Form” (www.sgtgca.org). All students must continue to wear masks while on the school property, and as a courtesy we ask all parents accompanying their children for drop off and pick up to wear a mask as well.***
An additional change to our schedule is the lunch period is being moved to 11:35am-12:20pm for all students.
Remember, our official uniform company is Flynn O’Hara, https://flynnohara.com/
Nursery, Pre-K and Kindergarten students should be in their school uniform – St. Gregory’s tee shirts and St. Gregory’s shorts. Grades 1-8 students should be in their summer uniforms – St. Gregory’s khaki shorts, short sleeve St. Gregory’s golf shirt or skirts or jumpers for the girls. In grades 4-8, shirts must be tucked in (boys and girls) and a black belt must be worn. Students are permitted to wear either their black uniform shoes OR white sneakers, ONLY. IF the sneakers are not white, your child will be considered out of uniform, and will receive a demerit. Also, please remember no “fad” hairstyles are permitted, and girls are not permitted to wear make-up – this includes nail polish. In addition, jewelry is not permitted with the exception of a small religious medal, small post earrings for girls only, and watches. NO JEWELRY IS ALLOWED ON GYM DAYS. A reminder that no students may dress down on Mass days.
I know this is a lot of information, but I am sure we all want to start the school year off on the right foot. More details about all of these procedures will be addressed again in our student handbook.
We look forward to another successful year at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy.
Sincerely,
Lynn M. Alaimo
Principal
